Reports about Egypt's exports

Egyptian agricultural exports achieved a record during the past months of 2023, estimated at 4 million and 654 thousand tons, after following several measures that contributed to an increase in demand from various markets in the world, according to statements by an official in the Egyptian Ministry of Agriculture.

Mr. Al-Quseir, the Egyptian Minister of Agriculture, announced earlier that the total Egyptian exports from the beginning of January during the current year until July witnessed an increase of 717 thousand and 896 tons over the same period last year, which recorded 3 million and 936 thousand tons.

4 pivots beyond the jump

Ahmed Al-Attar, head of the Agricultural Quarantine Authority in Egypt, confirms that the jump in agricultural exports depended on 4 pivots, the first of which is a good agricultural quarantine control system on all products before exporting them, in addition to implementing the requirements of importing countries with precision and great attention.

Opening new markets

Al-Attar adds, “We have also made great strides in opening new markets over the past years, most notably New Zealand, Japan, and finally China, following the popularity of our agricultural crops around the world and the good reputation for the quality of the Egyptian product.”

Al-Attar continues to the website, “The role of the farmer and his keenness to implement all the recommendations and advice of the Ministry of Agriculture that continues throughout the year cannot be overlooked, in addition to the farmers’ focus on producing crops at a high value in accordance with international specifications and standards.”

The head of the agricultural quarantine points to the efforts of Egyptian exporters to find more sales and trade opportunities with all countries, noting that Egypt now exports more than 400 agricultural products to 120 countries in the world.

Al-Attar explains that there is an ambition to open new markets in the coming period within the framework of implementing the government’s directives, considering agricultural exports as direct support for the national economy and monetary reserves, stressing the existence of a strategic plan to achieve this.

According to an official statement issued by the Egyptian Ministry of Agriculture, the most prominent agricultural exports included the following:

• Citrus fruits reached 1.9 million tons, and this is the first time this number has been reached.

• Fresh potatoes at 876 thousand and 241 tons.

• Onions, with a total of 323 thousand and 783 tons.

• Grapes: 94,660 tons.

• Beans ranked fifth with 73,889 tons

The secret is in climate changes

Abdel Hamid Al-Demerdash, head of the Export Council for Agricultural Crops, believes that the climate changes that struck a number of countries competing with Egypt, such as Spain, Morocco, and Turkey, resulted in a decrease in the quantity of products and a negative impact on their quality, which opened the way for Cairo to increase its exports this year.

Al-Demerdash says, “The application of the coding system in recent years has contributed significantly to the increase in the volume of agricultural exports, as it allows monitoring the farmer’s compliance with the specifications required by importing countries, the safety and quality of the products, and following up on all steps of the crop from the farm until it reaches the importers via satellite.

Al-Demerdash added, “We are living in a bright period in agricultural exports. The export season, which begins on September 22 and ends on August 23, witnessed an increase over the same period last year in fresh products amounting to one million tons with a value of up to 600 million dollars.”

Facilitating export procedures

The head of the Export Council for Agricultural Crops continues, “There is an interest from the state to facilitate export procedures abroad and to address all obstacles and assistance in all steps. All we need is to increase farmers’ awareness of the necessity of expanding the use of organic pesticides instead of chemical ones, and to implement that step through continuous supervision.” ‏

Al-Demerdash stated at the end of his speech: “We want greater cooperation with other markets in the future, especially within the continent of Asia. There is a common desire for our agricultural exports to reach the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam. This will be achieved after signing agricultural quarantine protocols wi
